We were commissioned by Hastings Contemporary to design and build a mobile creative studio. The project was co-designed with artist Kieren Reed and developed in consultation with local organisations and communities. Inspired by Hastings’ historic net huts, the mobile studio sits on the Stade and can be easily towed to neighbouring areas, extending access to creativity across the region. The project was created to remove barriers to participation in art and creative education, providing a welcoming space for people to engage and collaborate.
The fully accessible studio acts as a shared community resource, available for hire by local arts organisations and groups. Designed as a trailer-mounted timber structure, it features a fold-down stage, powered accessible lift, and glass doors that allow it to function as either an enclosed room or an open stage. The exterior includes colourful panels hidden behind fold-out hatches, providing display areas where artwork can be easily attached using magnets. This flexible, mobile space creates an open invitation for everyone to make art, play, and connect through shared creative experiences.
